About

Songwriter Hall of Fame award winner Steve Rosenthal auditioned for his first big break unaware he was being auditioned.

"I was teaching in a small school in Denmark and had gotten to know the piano player in the danish Country Rock band Buffalo. One weekend Henrik invited me over to play. About a half hour into the evening he asked me if I wanted to try some of Buffalo's original material. After a couple songs he said, 'Well, would you like to be the lead singer for the band?'"

In just a few weeks Steve went from playing the occasional open mic to late night recording sessions for Buffalo’s first LP and interviews with Copenhagen's major newspapers and radio stations.

In 1977 he returned to the US, moving to Minneapolis, where he had grown up. The influential Twin City Punk/New Wave scene was just taking off.
"It was an incredibly exciting time to be a fan and a musician. Groups like Talking Heads, Blondie, The B52's were coming through town on a regular basis, playing at this tiny bar, The Longhorn where the punks hung out " His band Vector opened for the Replacements, The Teardrop Explodes and Duran Duran.

In the mid 80's Steve moved to New York to pursue a songwriting career. He was accepted into the Songwriter Hall of Fame Composer Circle and worked with Grammy in the Schools. He was the 1993 recipient of Abe Olman Scholarship. for his song "Oh, Winding River" which was recorded by Paul McCartney's conductor, Morgan Ames for her album, Prairie Jazz.

Steve has performed solo acoustic versions of his songs in Asheville, NC clubs, having moved to the Land of Sky in 2011.   In January of 2025 he released  the compilation CD, "One Heart, Two Hearts, Red Heart, Blue Heart."   The song “Rock 'N Roll Bullshit” from that album was selected as Song of the Month by “Punks in the Garage Radio”, WAIF-FM 88.3, Cincinnati, OH and aired on the nationally syndicated show “First Wave”.
